| Alpha Chi Omega has adopted the support of victims of domestic violence as a national altruistic project. All members, collegiate and alumnae, provide service in their community to local shelters or organizations that aid victims of domestic violence. The emphasis of this project is to offer members’ time and energy to women, children, and organizations in need.
Our chapter, Gamma Nu, works closely with a local organization called Becky’s House. Becky’s House is a safe house, sheltering woman and children that have been victims of domestic violence. This establishment protects its members with a witness-protection-like program and also helps them to start a new life without violence. They also provide counseling for the women and children that seek their help.
As a chapter we hold an annual philanthropic event that the Fraternities on campus participate in. Last year we held a “Mr. Alpha Chi” pageant in which our Sorority’s sweetheart was chosen. The event was sponsored by each Fraternity that entered a contestant, as well as many businesses in the community. Our joint efforts raised nearly $20,000 for Becky’s House. The pageant was a lot of hard work, but we had a really great time and it was also very fulfilling to know that all proceeds went to such a great cause. Everyone involved put their heart and soul into it and made a great difference. |
